Role: The Doctor

Occupation: A Doctor, who probably is an optamologist or an eye surgeon

Age: Mid-thirties

Family: No wife, no girlfriend, no kids- a bachelor

Likes: Reading scientific and medical journals, watching documentaries, newspapers, golf, football as a spectator sport, his job!, cars, esp. fast ones, fine dining and wine

Dislikes: Pink, frivolous things, wasting time (he's very very serious), plastic surgeons

Physical appearance: (If possible, I will make him wear a mustache), tall, slight, bespectacled and distinguished-looking. He wears what doctors wear, and outside of work it's usually something black and boring.

Personality: Kind, deep down, but slightly impatient and intolerant of fanciful things, which he sees as a waste of both time and money. Pragmatic, solemn, secretly emotional, but the suppressive and domineering side of his nature is able to control his feelings... Most of the time. btw, the post i just posted is annabelle's friend- Jane. i know that i am supposed to be sally's frined. however, in the drama script, the Jane is more like annabelle's friend so i think i shall be annabelle's friend, not sally's friend anymore. i asked sara, she felt that the friend ought to be annabelle's friend. if there are any problems, which i doubt there will be, call or email me. i should have already started memorising the lines, so hopefully there will be no changes. just something for you all to take note, especially annabelle and sally... thanks!:)
ps. sorryy ling ting, i asked you and you say i should still be doing on sally's friend. i think it will be quite troublesome for the scriptwriters to change that part, so ya.. hope you are ok with that. sorry., thanks!

hey people :D for the last drama lesson, we were supposed to do our 5 scenes for storyboarding and to get into groups of twos/threes to do the script for our story. i'll be typing out each script so you all can look at them and give comments and think about whether there is any other parts that can be improved or changed to make this play a better one :D so things will work out faster the next drama lesson!

Scene 1
Narrator: Once upon a time, there lived a rich family consisting of the parents and three daughters. The three daughters were named Sally, Peggy and Annabelle, with Sally being the oldest, Peggy being the second oldest and Annabelle being the youngest of them all.

Sally: Hi! I'm Sally and i am 16 years ....Annabelle! Come here you stupid idiot!

Annabelle enters scene.
Sally kicks and slaps Annabelle


Annabelle: Nono! Please stop it!

Sally: You stupid girl! You are always fighting for mummy and daddy's attention! Go and die!

Peggy: Hey people! Lower your volume. i'm sleeping!?

Annabelle: Jie Jie Peggy! Help me!


Scene 2
Narrator: Almost everyday, Sally will bully Annabelle and very often, Peggy will also join in the bullying as both of them were jealous of Annabelle getting their parents' atttention very often.

Sally: Annabelle! You better bring me a bowl of maggi mee in 5 minutes, if not i call police come and catch you! Hurry up!

Annabelle: But i very tired leh jiejie, can later?

Sally: WHAT YOU SAY?!?! i ask you to cook then you cook. Talk so much for what?!

Annabelle: Huh ... dont want la ..

Peggy slaps Annabelle

Peggy: Aiyo Annabelle ah, jiejie ask you cook then you just cook it la!

Annabelle cries

ps. personally, i feel that the script of this scene has to be changed cos its too dramatic. Being a young child as Annabelle, it will not be simple for her to go and cook maggi mee for her sister. i think it will be more realistic if it was just hitting Annabelle and snatching all her toys and slapping her and bullying her. this scene de script may need to change, tasha yixian and yeeteng(:


Scene 3
Father reaches home.

Father: Hey! What's going on?

Father puts down bag angrily.
-SILENCE-

Father: I asked what's going on! Sally open your mouth and answer me!

Sally: Daddy, i didn't do anything wrong!

Father stares at her

Sally: Alright alright. I only hit Annabelle's head. I believe there is nothing wrong with that right ? Annabelle always gets everything she wants, what about me?

Father has disappointed look on his face

Father: How can you possibly do that to her?

Sally: Why not?

Peggy holds Sally's hands and holds her back.

Peggy: Dont ...

Sally shook away Peggy's hands

Mother enters room, singing.


Mother: Annabelle, my lovely Annabelle! Come over and try on this lovely dress!

Sally points fingers at mother

Sally: See ... ? Argh, forget it. Forget it all.

Sally walks into her room and slams door

Annabelle: Mummy ...

Annabelle cries.

Mother: Oh darling, what's happening?

Mother wipes away Annabelle's tears

Mother: Come on, dont mind your sisters. They are probably just in a bad mood, come and try on this lovely dress, okay?

Annabelle: Hais ..

Annabelle walks into room, followed by Peggy walking into her room also.


Scene 4
Narrator: Every single day, Sally and Peggy will see their parents give Annabelle lots of new presents, new clothings, new toys and unconditional love. As the time passed day by day, their hatred for Annabelle also deepened further and further.

Father and Mother enters the scene
Father: Oh darling, i think that it is time to bring Annabelle away for a while so that Sally and Peggy will be able to settle down and concentrate on their exams.

Mother: Alright, i think it will be better for Annabelle too.

Father: Yes. I'll arrange for her to go over to Aunt Stella's house to stay for a few weeks and let's better follow her, just in case ...

Mother: Say no more, darling.

Mother breaks down, thinking of the thought that Annabelle may become blind any moment now.

Narrator: After one month, Peggy and Sally have finally finished their major examinations, PSLE and O levels respectively.

Sally and Peggy enters the scene.
Father, Mother and Annabelle in house.
Annabelle in glasses and walking stick in her hand.


Sally: Daddy Mummy! You are finally home!

Peggy: Daddy Mummy we missed you. But .. what happened to Annabelle? Why is she in sunglasses?

Sally: Oh peggy! Its more important that mummy and daddy are back home now. You dont have to worry about Annabelle! I believe it is nothing serious. She may just be trying to gain some sympathy and attention from daddy and mummy again!

Sally stares at Annabelle

Father: Can you please have some conscience? Annabelle is your sister! Have you all ever treated her like your younger sister? Or just someone that you all know, to bully? She has now lost her vision and is now blind, yet Sally, you are here trying to be sarcastic!

Peggy: Huh? What did you say daddy? But ... how come we never knew? How come she suddenly just became blind .. ?

Annabelle started crying when she was sitting on the sofa, listening to their conversation.

Mother: It was because you and Sally were preparing for your major examinations, and we didn't want you and Sally to worry about Annabelle!

Peggy was speechless.
Sally started to cry.


Sally: So my youngest sister .. the one that i used to bully and hate so much .. was actually pampered with so much love by you and mummy because you all knew that she was going to become blind ... ?

Father nods head.
Peggy hugs Annabelle tightly.


Peggy: I'm sorry, Annabelle.

Sally: I'm sorry too. For everything i've done. I've not been a good elder sister .. Sorry Annabelle.

Annabelle smiles and wipes away her tears
Annabelle: It's okay. At least now i know i have my beloved sister and loving parents with me!


Scene 5
Narrator: After knowing about Annabelle's illness, they lived in harmony and joy. Annabelle forgave her sisters for whatever they've done and they were one big happy family.

hm hi this is lingting.

well, commenting on what yixian posted, i feel that it is possible to make peggy as such like, being the in-between between the older sister which is sally and the younger sister, annabelle. perhaps peggy can be like stuck in between, because one is that she does not hate her younger sister as much as sally does, and perhaps like maybe because peggy also loves her younger sister. it can be portrayed in a way that peggy can be very confused, and sometimes when she wants to approach to comfort annabelle when annabelle is being bullied by sally, peggy is being stopped by sally and also scolded. we can also think of some stuff that will make peggy be afraid of sally and not daring to defy her. so it can make the play more interesting and the audience will be able to see the ''tiring'' role of peggy of being confused and not knowing which side to take.

and for the mediator part, maybe we can .. have the maid? maybe we can change her role abit to make it seem as though like the maid dotes on the youngest the most as she is always bullied, but yet the maid will also be the mediator between sally, peggy and annabelle. the maid could sometimes try to talk sense and make peggy and sally understand that it is not good to bully annabelle, as afterall she is their younger sister and as older sisters, they are obliged to take care of her.

oh and perhaps we can think of the ending. like how are we going to end the story and which part is going to be the climax? is it the part that we agreed on during the last drama lesson? or is there another part to be considered as being the climax also? :D perhaps like .. usually for normal stories, its just that anabelle will become blind in the end while sally and peggy regrets bullying her. this is sort of a very normal ending i feel, so perhaps we can try to think of a more interesting ending that is more touching? :D okay this is all i got to say.

For the last drama lesson, we briefly drafted out our story.
SETTING:
Singapore, private housing

The protagonist is:
-PEGGY; she's the elder sister
-aged 16, currently taking her O levels examinations.
-a student

FEELINGS:
-unloved
-neglected
-jealous

PS1:
-Second sister, SALLY
-aged 12, preparing for her PSLE examinations
-student
-does not like Anabelle too as her parents were not giving her any attention

PS2:
-Friend of Peggy, EMILY
-aged 16
-student/classmates of Peggy
-(she would be the bad guy, who would devise plans to bully Anabelle)

The antagonist is:
-ANABELLE; she's the youngest sister
-aged 7
-a student

FEELINGS:
-innocent

-Maid, YATI
-she would always side with anabelle as anabelle is the smallest of them all

AS2:
-FATHER
-CEO of company ABC

And the conflict between the both of them is that Peggy is jealous that Anabelle is always getting their parent's attention. Yah, because Anabelle is going blind soon, and even she herself didn't know that. She's an innocent little soul :D Her parents did not tell her two other sisters that she's going blind soon as she did not want this matter to affect the sisters' studies. Yup, and we agreed on the fact that whenever Anabelle did something wrong, her parents always side with her.

Mdm O proposed that we change the personality of Sally, the second sister. instead of siding with Peggy all these while, she can be the in-between, sometimes siding with Peggy, sometimes siding with Anabelle. I think that this idea is not bad. Yup. it would be more interesting as we have a mediator in the play :D what do your think about it? please comment :D

24 July 2008 (2nd lesson of 2nd semester)

For this lesson, we started off with random brainstorming of words related to the given topic.

If my memory didnt fail me, the topics given were:
1) Parents
2) Sister
3) Home
4) Family

After that, we came up with two stories that were inspired from the word splash. The theme was "Family" and the two stories included one about 2 sister's jealousy of parents attention over the 3rd sister and hence the sisters tried to backstab and harm the one in attention. Little did they know that the 3rd sister was having health problems and had not much time left in this world, therefore their parents showered her with more care. Their parents did not tell the other 2 sisters as they did not want them to worry. The dramatic tensions would be when the 2 sisters try to harm the sickly sister while the climax would eventually be when the sick sister dies.

The next story was about a drunk father murdering his daughter. He had a bad day at work, and he hallucinated that his daughter was his enemy and hence ending up killing his daughter. The story proceeds on with the father adopting an orphan as he was guilty for his actions and wanted to make up for it.

We also decided that we can work more on the first story as it involves more people and would be more interesting.

ok i think most of you know what this blog is for. but for those who happened to have missed last week's drama lesson: this blog is to replace our drama journals for semester 2 and to facilitate discussion etc (:

so just a recap of what happened last week

we brainstormed out 10 different issues as well as examples/ideas/stories so as to get an idea of how much we actually know of each individual issue:

issues:
1. dreams: aspirations
2. family: strict parents, broken families
3. stress: homework/school?
4. friendship : betrayal
5. drugs: michael jackson, a scenario in which the parents are consumers of drugs and the children are filled with disappointment upon realisation
6. star-crossed lovers:
7. homosexuality:
8. super natural :
9. death:
10. musical: syf

out of these 10 different issues we were 2 sieve out the 3 that we felt that we knew about the most/would like to work with

and our eventual 3 were:
1. family
2. friendship
3. homosexuality

with these 3 different issues we were then asked to create still pictures of a scenario which could depict each scene and the opposite group was supposed guess.

after experimenting with the scenes, at the end of the lesson, we were asked decide a final issue that we would like to work on

and that issue was: FAMILY

so that leads us to our "homework" for this week (:

we are supposed to research on the different types of families, stories, intervies and any of pictures or photographs of different types of family backgrounds.

a few that we have come up with would include:
- broken families
- single parenthood
- "love triangle"
- happy family?
